My favorite quote from Popov:
“The water is your friend. You don’t have to fight with water, just share the same spirit as the water, and it will help you move.” ~Aleksandr Popov
I’ll use some of this to train for my next tri.

Popov is the best short distance swimmer I’ve ever seen.

That’s because they swam longer distances – where swimmers with less efficient strokes, but better slow-twitch kick muscles, dominate. Popov had the most efficient technique ever, and produced the one record that remains most impressive for his era today, disregarding Janet evans earlier swims.

Cielo with his awfully ugly technic? Are you kidding? He was fast during the shiny suit area but now he swam only 22,13…funny everybody is far from Popov’s 21.64.

Brazilian Cesar Cielo is the fastest man ever.

Just think that Cesar Cielo is not at the top of his career yet.

Cielo is the best of the current swimmers, because he is the 2009 world champion of 50m 100m free as well the 2008 gold medalist for 50m. However, Popov is the legend, because by far he is the only one who can win gold medals for 50m and 100m at two successive Olympic Games.

Popov arm recovery with high elbow is great, balanced for both right and left arm. Until now, it is very hard for me to achieve this

He represents the evolution of swimming – sprinters with explosive, sustainable technique garnered from weightlifting and swimming. People like him are going to dominate sprinting for a long time coming.

Seriously. So much splashing. That’ can’t be good for propulsion through water and efficiency. After watching all of those Total Immersion videos, they just look like a better technique.
