      My favorite quote from Popov:

“The water is your friend. You don’t have to fight with water, just share the same spirit as the water, and it will help you move.” ~Aleksandr Popov

I’ll use some of this to train for my next tri.

actually phelps was successful in more styles, hacky and thorpe were successful in more distances

hahahahahah people can brag about his weird genitic traits but he ain’t big in the one place it counts

      hahahahaa…lol

Popov is the best short distance swimmer I’ve ever seen.

    6. MVPacMan23 on February 22nd, 2010 3:53 pm

That’s because they swam longer distances – where swimmers with less efficient strokes, but better slow-twitch kick muscles, dominate. Popov had the most efficient technique ever, and produced the one record that remains most impressive for his era today, disregarding Janet evans earlier swims.

Cielo with his awfully ugly technic? Are you kidding? He was fast during the shiny suit area but now he swam only 22,13…funny :D everybody is far from Popov’s 21.64.

    8. MrLeonardoK on March 16th, 2010 3:53 pm

Brazilian Cesar Cielo is the fastest man ever.

    9. MrLeonardoK on March 16th, 2010 3:54 pm

Just think that Cesar Cielo is not at the top of his career yet.

    10. lexsoft on March 21st, 2010 12:22 am

Cielo is the best of the current swimmers, because he is the 2009 world champion of 50m 100m free as well the 2008 gold medalist for 50m. However, Popov is the legend, because by far he is the only one who can win gold medals for 50m and 100m at two successive Olympic Games.

Popov arm recovery with high elbow is great, balanced for both right and left arm. Until now, it is very hard for me to achieve this

    12. MVPacMan23 on March 22nd, 2010 5:51 am

      Actually he was 21.7

    13. MVPacMan23 on March 22nd, 2010 5:53 am

He represents the evolution of swimming – sprinters with explosive, sustainable technique garnered from weightlifting and swimming. People like him are going to dominate sprinting for a long time coming.

i don’t understand these techniques, cause i don’t think about how im swimming, i just adapt to the water in order to swim as fast as i can… strange

    15. yellowwitch1 on March 23rd, 2010 1:30 am

and michael phelps doesn’t do any of these weird stuff. he is just normal!

    16. freefallingmonkey on April 2nd, 2010 8:31 pm

@yellowwitch1 I thought that was the way to swim fast too lol, but its definitley not :P I’m taking one-on-one lessons in preparation for the paralympics hopefully and I can swim WAY faster and WAY longer now :P

    21. suck4cash on April 16th, 2010 3:39 pm

thanks branodi, you gave me my biggest laugh of the day

    22. shemseven on April 19th, 2010 4:08 pm

Seriously. So much splashing. That’ can’t be good for propulsion through water and efficiency. After watching all of those Total Immersion videos, they just look like a better technique.

    23. Kaira025 on April 25th, 2010 7:57 pm

      @branodi haha that was funny

    24. vonnbones001 on May 13th, 2010 10:24 pm
